If you are looking for a special little exfoliation, I have a gem for you: St. Ives Gentle Smoothing Scrub Rose Water & Aloe Vera. This product is the perfect little scrub to freshen up your mid-week face for a healthy glow.

I have been using St. Ives products for as many years back as I began having an interest in my skin health. I had originally used a product that was a bit more abrasive, and was only able to use it about once a week. While going to college, the availability of the line and the affordability of the product was the right match for me. Fast forward a few years to this new release.

To be honest, the pretty light pink container with rose and aloe vera was what originally drew my eyes to the product. I noted that the scrub itself was mixed with crushed up rose petals and thought, who wouldn’t want to try that. So it came home with me that day and continues to be a stable in my collection currently. The natural exfoliants (walnut shell powder and crushed rose petals) work as micro scrubbers to gently exfoliate your dry skin away.

Personal Experience

My skin is naturally quite dry, but not extremely sensitive. This scrub is quite a bit less abrasive than some of the other St. Ives products, but could still be a bit harsh for someone with very sensitive skin. I have read articles on the effects of walnut shells on skin, but will say this. The product works well for my skin type when used a couple of times a week. The light rose smell is quite pleasant (not over powering) and the scrub removes all the dead skin and leaves me with a super clean hydrated skin.

Product Description

From St.Ives:

Key Ingredients

  • Rose – Not just the official flower of love, rose petals are used in everything from fragrances to food. They’re rich in vitamin C and have a scent that’s been shown to improve your mood.
  • Aloe Vera – Aloe Vera is a member of the succulent plant family. Its cactus-like leaves are filled with a clear gel that you can apply to skin or even drink.
  • Walnut Shell Powder – Crushed walnut shell powder is the gentle-yet-effective secret behind many of our scrubs. We take pride in ensuring the walnut shell powder in our scrubs is finely milled and polished so that each particle has a smooth surface. This ensures our scrubs only provide exfoliation to the outer layers of dead skin cells and do not damage your skin.

A couple other beneficial things about this is that it is paraben-free, oil-free, dermatologist tested, non-comedogenic, and cruelty free certified by PETA.

How To Use

Squeeze a small amount of the scrub and apply to your face. I usually use a light amount water as well. I use light pressure and work the product in small circular motion all over my face and neck, avoiding the eyes. Then just rinse the product off your face, pat dry and apply the rest of your products as usual. I only use this 1-2 times a week, whenever my skin feels like it needs a bit of exfoliation.

Final Thoughts

St. Ives Gentle Smoothing Scrub Rose Water & Aloe Vera is a really nice exfoliating scrub for someone who doesn’t have sensitive skin. However, if you don’t have sensitive skin, I think this product might be a nice addition to your skin care line. This product is extremely affordable and gives you really nice clean feeling without feeling dry or tight.
